Seiko Celebrates 'Mobile Suit Gundam' 40th Anniversary With Prospex Collection

Seiko’s Prospex line of watches receives three new versions in celebration of Mobile Suit Gundam‘s 40th anniversary. Coming in the form of the SBDB 033, SBDX029 and SBDX 027, the first watch gets its inspiration from the RX-78-2 Gundam — clad in white, blue, and red. The RX-78-2 version also has a number of Earth Federation Army stampings, a GMT function, a “Head Sensor” 12 o’clock bezel marking, a power reserve indicator, and comes with both a stainless steel bracelet and white/red crocodile strap.

The two Tuna-style MS-06S watches take direct inspiration from the green Zaku II, and Char Aznable’s red Zaku II. The green version features Principality of Zeon branding while the red watch features the personal crest of Char Aznable. Both Zaku models are powered by Seiko’s 8L35 automatic movement, and have details that pay homage to the mobile suit; the second hand lollipop is meant to signify mechs signature monoeye sensor.

Priced at ¥630,000 JPY (approximately $5,660 USD) and ¥400,000 JPY (approximately $3,590 USD) for the RX-78-2 and MS-06S, respectively, each model will be available later this month in limited quantity — the RX-78-2 will see 300 pieces while each colored MS-06S will receive 1000.
