Coolio's 'Gangsta's Paradise' Spikes in Popularity Following 'Sonic the Hedgehog' Trailer

Following Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise" featured in the new Sonic The Hedgehog trailer, YouTube reported on Tuesday (May 7), that the daily views for the '90s favorite music video reached as high as 712,000 last week, pushing the tune into the YouTube Top Songs chart in seven countries, including Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the U.K.

Additionally, in the streaming world, "Gangsta's Paradise" had 11 million on-demand streams in the chart week ending May 2, up 237% from the previous week, according to Nielsen Music.

The spike in popularity also drove interest in "Weird Al" Yankovic’s parody, “Amish Paradise,” which had a 90% increase in YouTube views compared to its daily average prior to the trailer release. "Amish Paradise" had 295,000 on-demand streams in the same week, up 31%.
