This summer, Barcelona’s Primavera Sound was ready to kick off with a star-studded line-up and headliners like Tyler, the Creator, Lana Del Rey and BROCKHAMPTON. After postponing the event until August, Primavera Sound has finally been cancelled due to the widespread coronavirus pandemic. Although some states in the U.S. are beginning to ease restrictions on concerts and large live events, organizers of Primavera Sound, which is considered one of Europe’s best, said the next edition will take place in 2021 from June 2 to June 6.
“Primavera Sound announces the most difficult decision in its history: finally we cannot celebrate the 20th anniversary of Primavera Sound during 2020, as we all would have liked,” organizers wrote on Primavera Sound’s website. “And it won’t be for lack of trying. When, on March 28th, we announced the change of date to the end of August, we did so under the supervision and with the green light from the local and health authorities, who at that moment validated its celebration this year.”
All tickets that have been bought for this year will be valid for Primavera Sound 2021 and will include “special benefits” for those who decide to keep them. Beginning June 3, however, festival ticket holders can seek a refund. On that same day, organizers will announce the first artists for the 2021 edition, whose line-up will still celebrate the 20th anniversary of the festival. “Until then, please take good care of each other and follow the advice of the authorities at all times,” organizers added.
